In recognition of Men’s Health Week, Tory Trewhitt, fitness expert, executive accountability coach, and health consultant, shares his top tips for prioritising health.
Tory often advises clients to approach their health with the same commitment they would apply to a business – aiming to keep things on track and in balance.
According to Tory, building structure, being consistent, and understanding individual needs can play an important role in supporting overall wellness. Here, Tory shares some daily habits that may contribute positively to general health and wellbeing.
1. Prioritise Quality Sleep
Sleep is essential for health and wellbeing. Aim for a minimum of six hours each night to support overall functioning. Consider setting up a dark, comfortable sleep environment, with a temperature around 16-18 degrees to encourage restful sleep.
2. Practice Mindfulness
Taking time each day to quiet the mind may help reduce stress and encourage relaxation. Techniques like meditation, deep breathing exercises, and setting aside moments of calm can support a balanced state of mind.
3. Nourish with Balanced Nutrition
Focus on a balanced diet that includes protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats. Minimising packaged foods and choosing whole foods where possible can also support nutritional goals. As a general guideline, try to fill most of your shopping trolley with items from the outer sections of the store, where fresh produce and whole foods are often located.
4. Engage in Regular Physical Activity
Aim to include some form of structured exercise that elevates your heart rate and includes strength-building activities. Whether it’s cardio or weight-bearing exercise, consistent physical activity is beneficial for overall fitness.
5. Stay Hydrated
Adequate hydration is essential for cognitive and physical health. Aim for a glass of water regularly throughout the day. Proper hydration can support clarity and help maintain focus and energy levels.
Focusing on these elements can help support a healthy routine. Creating structure and staying consistent in these practices may contribute positively to long-term wellbeing.
