If you’re looking to lead a healthier and more balanced lifestyle, committing to a regular health and wellness routine is an important first step. Whether you’re new to fitness or revitalising your approach to well-being, your journey begins with consistency and dedication to the routine.
In this blog, Tory Trewhitt, Executive Health and Accountability Coach, shares his top tips for starting and sustaining a health and wellness routine. From setting realistic goals to finding a supportive network, these insights can help empower you on your path to a healthier lifestyle
1. Set achievable fitness goals
When beginning your health and wellness journey, start with realistic fitness goals. These goals should challenge you but remain attainable. As you achieve them, you’ll build confidence and stay motivated to reach the next milestone.
2. Create a schedule
Establishing a consistent workout schedule helps integrate fitness into your routine. Treat your exercise time as non-negotiable, just like any other appointment. This ensures you prioritise your health even if you have a busy schedule.
3. Implement a reward system
Rewarding yourself for achieving fitness milestones can be a powerful motivator. Consider treating yourself to something you enjoy after reaching specific goals, creating a positive association with your health journey.
4. Track your progress
Documenting your progress provides a visual representation of your achievements. Whether through a fitness app, journal, or photos, tracking your journey helps you stay motivated by acknowledging how far you’ve come.
5. Find an accountability partner, buddy, gym, or class
Having a support system can make a significant difference. Whether it’s a workout buddy, a fitness class, or a gym community, the accountability and camaraderie can keep you motivated and make the journey more enjoyable.
Starting a health and wellness routine requires commitment, but with the right strategies, it can become a rewarding part of your lifestyle. Set realistic goals, establish a routine, and surround yourself with supportive people. Small, positive changes can build lasting improvements in your overall well-being.
One of my personal philosophies is, “It’s a journey of sacrifices, not a destination desire that creates change.” I encourage clients to treat their well-being like a small business, focusing on consistent, daily actions. Doing the little things each day accumulates into positive change—like building wellness wealth and investing in yourself.
In the words of Steve Jobs: “I reached the pinnacle of success in the business world. However, aside from work, I have little joy. Lying on my sick bed and recalling my whole life, I realise that all the recognition and wealth that I took so much pride in have paled and become meaningless in the face of impending death. Material things lost can be found, but one thing that can never be found when it is lost is LIFE.”
