Men’s Health Week: Accountability Coach shares 5 daily habits to improve health and wellbeing

Last Updated on August 11, 2023 by

Tory Trewhitt, fitness expert, executive accountability coach and health consultant, shares his top tips for prioritising your health this Men’s Health Week.

Tory often tells clients to run their body like a small business, and make sure they are always in the black!

Tory believes the key to maintaining your overall wellness is creating structure and being consistent, along with understanding your bio-individuality so you can work within your personal nutritional and physical activity needs.

Below Tory shares some simple daily habits to incorporate into your everyday routine to help improve overall health and wellbeing.

SLEEP – sleep hygiene is the key and there is NO such thing as a sleep bank. Respect yourself by respecting your sleep. You need a minimum of 6 hours each night. To set yourself up for success, create a dark room with the temperature around 16-18 degrees.

MINDFULNESS – we know that cancer loves a stressful environment, so slow your mind, minimise the noise, control your thoughts and decrease your body’s cortisol levels.

NUTRITION – eat a well balanced diet, including protein, carbs and good fats. Minimise packaged foods (high in sodium / salt), avoid excessive sugar, and control your portions. A tip for when going to the supermarket, fill 80% of your trolley up with products on the outside. Not from the aisles.

EXERCISE – ‘structured’ exercise is a non negotiable! Playing golf, walking the dog, going fishing doesn’t count! Elevate your heart rate and lift a few heavy things.

HYDRATION – water is the key!! Your brain is 90% water and we lose most at night time yet wake up and have a coffee decreasing our hydration even further. Aim for 150ml per waking hour! Hydration equals clarity! Clarity builds consistency. Consistency creates progress!

Focusing on each of these elements will ensure your health and well-being is headed in the right direction. Remember to be consistent, create structure and commit to maintaining your long term health.
