Epilepsy

What is Epilepsy and the symptoms?

Epilepsy is a chronic disorder, of which is recurrent, unprovoked seizures. A person is diagnosed with epilepsy if they have two unprovoked seizures that were not caused by some known and reversible medical condition. Epilepsy is the fourth most common neurological disorder and affects people of all ages. It is a spectrum condition with a wide range of seizure types and control varying per individual. The seizures in epilepsy may be related to a brain injury or a family tendency, but often the cause is completely unknown. Having seizures and epilepsy can affect one's safety, relationships, work, driving, and so much more. Public perception and treatment of people with epilepsy are often bigger problems than actual seizures.

Studies have shown that plant based endocannabinoid medicines can potentially improve Epilepsy symptoms.
In Australia, while up to 70% of people with epilepsy are able to obtain seizure control with antiepileptic drugs (AEDs), around 30% continue to have seizures[1]. The compounds derived from the endocannabinoid medication can reduce the severity and frequency of seizures in some people, especially in children who have severe epilepsy disorders[2]. Plant based medication may also be able to help control seizures[3].
